From time to time, we record parts of our dances with our iFlip digital video recorder. We have some posted on our website, but I was at a loss as to what to do with the rest of them. I decided I might as well feature them here! So- enjoy, and look for more to come :)

Congratulations Jason and Steph!

This Thursday, we headed to Lake Okoboji to help celebrate the wedding of Jason and Stephanie. We were doing the music for their ceremony and reception, as well as created a slideshow for them. Thursday was the rehersal dinner, which they kindly invited us to stay for. We stayed in Estherville on Thursday night and set up the reception hall Friday afternoon. We were keeping our fingers crossed that the weather would cooperate- it had been raining on and off for most of the week and the ceremony was planned to take place outside by the lake. As we set up around 4pm, the sky was getting cloudy and it was quite windy. We very nervously set up our equipment as the weather turned more threatening. A few sprinkles turned into a few more and then it started raining in earnest. All the guests ran for cover on nearby patios, and we stood outside trying to cover everything with garbage bags and keep things from getting too wet. After about 10 minutes of rain (felt like much much longer) The very kind staff at The Inn at Okoboji found us a canopy and we could finally relax with out equipment protected. We waited out the storm as there were blue skies behind it and started a little bit later than the planned 5pm start time. The ceremony was beautiful and went off without a hitch.

We moved inside for the reception which was equally lovely and we had a great time entertaining everyone. We stayed an extra hour because the reception got started quite late. We made the 2 hour drive home and arrived in Sioux Falls very early Saturday morning. All to get up and do it again on Saturday!

It really was a great experience for us- the couple's family was very kind to us and we felt very involved in their special day. They went oput of their way to tell us how much they appreciated us being there and what a wonderful day it was. The feeling was more than mutual. The staff at the resort was wonderful, all in all, it was a great few days and we enjoyed ourselves immensly.

Tony and Chelsey

Kelly and Eric went to Eric's last training show before going out on his own this weekend, to Jackson, Minnesota. We performed for a crowd we are getting pretty familiar with. We first met them for Susie and Zach Lewis' wedding last August (we saw them again last night and they are expecting their first child in October!). Lots of people remembered us and we knew we were in for a good time. Everything went well, we showed our first slideshow which they loved and they ever asked us to stay an extra hour.

The wedding season is off to a great start!

Seth and Stephanie

Last weekend Kelly and Wyatt went to Kelly's hometown of Cherokee, Iowa, for the wedding of Seth and Stephanie. Kelly's little brother was in the wedding, so we felt honored to also be included. Kelly was a little bit nervous for the 'hometown show' but everything went great. We got a ton of pictures, and hopefully helped create lots of special memories for the bride and groom.

Long time since last update.....

Its been a while since we had any time to post. This doesn't mean we have had nothing to post- quite to the contrary, we have been too busy to update anything! The past few months we have been acquiring new equipment, new employees, and getting ready for a busy wedding season. We have welcomed a new DJ- Eric, who will start doing shows on his own in June, and 2 assistants- Jordan and Wyatt, who help with setup and take pictures during the shows. We have also added a new service- slideshows! We have gotten some cool new gadgets to present them and are putting the first shows together to present in June.

My goal is to try and keep this more updated now that we have most things under control. On a personal note, Kristen's baby sister is getting married in October, and not only are we DJing, Kristen is the maid of honor, which presents its own amount of work- so we are seeing the wedding business from both sides this year!

Our first High School dance!

Saturday night, we headed down to Vermillion to play the Sadie Hawkins Dance at their High School. Kristen stayed home because we are training a few new people who will hopefully be coming on staff very soon. As promised, we debuted our largest system yet and it ended up looking great. The turnout was not great because there were lots of kids out of town for sports and other activities, but the kids who came were great and we had a lot of fun.

Next Friday we will be back at the USF Student Union (one of our favorite places) for their Valentine's Dance. We always have a great time with them and they are a fun crowd.

November the Month of Nothing!

Well folks sorry to say, but we had nothing to do in November. Mobile Magic Entertainment was given a Chevrolet Astro Van in the fall. It had a blown motor so we have been working to get that up and running ever since. In December Kristen's entire side of the family came up from CO, AZ, CA for her Graduation from nursing school. It was awesome! It was so much fun to have our family here and to see her finally finish with school. Christmas was fun, we enjoyed eating dinner with Kelly's family in Iowa, and playing with our new Wii. January brought the cold and the Black Tie Bridal show. It was a good turnout and we think we have our booth mastered. In February we have two dances coming up: Feb 9th at Vermillion High School (Sadie Hawkins), and the University of Sioux Falls Valentines Dance Feb 15th. We are bringing our biggest system with every light we own and some monster speakers, we are gonna blow there doors off!

Another Bridal Show under our belts.....

Every bridal show we do seems to go better and better. A long night before and lots of rain slowed us down a little bit and we were still putting the finishing touches on our booth when brides showed up, but it all worked out. The slideshow we worked so hard on came out awesome and it was a great addition to our booth. We got to meet some wonderful couples and booked a few shows for next year that we are really excited about doing (including one on the 4th of July with fireworks, how cool is that!!!). It was also a great opportunity to network with other vendors. We set up some reciprocal links with some really talented people and we hope to start referring customers back and forth.

Now that its over with, we are winding down from a busy wedding season and the house is a mess! Everything is everywhere and hopefully we can take the time this winter to get caught up and organized in preperation for what will be a very busy season next year

Like I said before, it was a busy weekend! While Kelly did a wedding dance, Kristen played for the Homecoming Dance at USF. Even though it was raining quite a bit, there was a great turnout and the kids had a lot of fun. There was a theme, but we couldn't quite figure out what it was. Something about Mardi Gras and 80's prom dresses. The only glitch came when the microphone decided not to work, luckily I didn't have anything worth saying anyways! It was the debut of our second system and the end of a lot of work to get it all together and running. Hopefully they were happy and will have us back again, we had a lot of fun ourselves (all except for schlepping all the equipment out to our cars in the rain!).

Now that we have a second system, its time to start looking for another DJ who is just as talented and professinal as Kelly. We have heard some horror stories and I am afriad it might not be easy to find the kind of person we are looking for. We know that no one will care as much as we do, but hopefully we can find someone who cares almost as much. The extra money we could make is not as important as making sure every show we put our name on is fun, professional, and completely exceptional, and that every couple is happy.

Congratulations Shannie and Chad!

It was quite a busy weekend for us! We helped Shannie and Chad celebrate their marriage on Saturday at the Holiday Inn City Center, a venue we had never played before. They are a lovely couple and friends of ours, so we were honored to be included. Even though it rained all night, everyone stuck around and had a great time. The funniest part of the evening came when Chad had to crawl across the room to Shannie for the garter toss. It was so funny that one of his groomsmen paid him $80 to do it again! That is definitely a first for us.
Also a first for us was a cd player decided to malfunction (one side would not read cd's, we kind of need both sides to work!) The very nice people at Guitar Cebter stayed open late for us so we could pick up another one to switch out during the dollar dance (Kelly is very sneaky). Things could have been worse, but we managed to get everything under control. The most aggrivating part of it was that CD player just came back from being serviced, so Numark is going to hear an earful from us!

This Sunday we will be making our first appearance at the Black Tie Bridal Show at the Ramkota Hotel in Sioux Falls. It is one of the largest Bridal planning event in the area and we are very excited to take part! We hope you will stop by and talk to us personally!

Congratulations Nathan and Dani!

Its been a busy week so I haven't had time to update the blog, but last Saturday we made the short trip to Brandon for a reception at Tailgator's, a venue we have played several times. I absolutely loved their color scheme (black and hot pink, very fun and sophistocated) and we had a great time entertaining Dani, Nathan and their friends. They asked us to do a party starter we had never heard of before, called a 'broom dance'. We weren't sure how it would turn out, but it ended up being a lot of fun, kind of like musical chairs. We have to brainstorm how to tweak it just a little but we are definitely going to add it to our party starters (once we get a broom). Congratulatons Josh and Elonda!

It was our first full weekend of shows and Saturday, we drove to Iowa to celebrate with Josh, Elonda, and their family. They had a beautiful daughter and a really nice family. We got there a little late, but got set up in record time, we are getting faster at this! Teardown was even faster than that.
They had a really varied taste in music, so it was a challenge keeping everyone happy, but I think we lived up to that challenge and jept the party going for most of the night. We found out later that the Groom's mother had died a few weeks earlier, so it was surprising that anyone was in a good mood, but I am sure she would have wanted her son to enjoy their special day together. Their daughter was especially cute and danced all night long. I'm surprised she didn't collapse into a little heap by the end!

Our first Rodeo Dance!

A former client of our called us up and asked if we would provide the entertainment for the Minnesota Rodeo Finals Dance. We gladly accepted this new challenge and made the drive to Minnesota Friday night. The event was held at the I-90 Expo Center which is a pretty cool facility. We started playing in the bar/concessions area while the rodeo was still going on, so we tried to play some good drinking music, which is what we ended up doing most of the night. We were treated to some great two-steppers and country jitterbugging, and then the kids got rowdy a little later. It was funny to see the line of cowboy hats by the bar and the younger people dancing to hip hop. We had a great time and are really enjoying all the new and exciting opportunities we have been offered.

Congratulations Paul and Beth!

Saturday, we travelled to Yankton, South Dakota to celebrate with Paul and Beth. Her mother called us earlier in the week to see if we were available for a last minute reception she was throwing for her daughter. Beth and Paul travelled to Las Vegas and eloped on August 31st and their families wanted to give them a party. We thoguht is sounded like a great idea and we were happy to be available for them! It was a very intimate reception at the Moose Lodge downtown. We had a lot of fun with their family and we hope they enjoyed themselves as well!

Our first college party!

The Universty of Sioux Falls called us this week needing a DJ for their Freshman Mixer. We have never done anything like that and it fit into our schedule perfectly, so we accepted the gig. We are getting pretty good at narrowly avoiding disaster, however! Kelly borrowed a van from a friend so we could haul our new subs their a little easier. However, when he was loading it up, it locked him out somehow! He had to drive to Crooks to get a spare key, but Kristen managed to get it open and finish getting it loaded while he was gone (if this DJ thing doens't work out, we can apparantly steal cars!). Crisis averted and we got to the Student Union and set up in record time! The Student Body VP approached us and was very concerned about the dance. Apparantly in the past DJs have not performed the way they had hoped and students have not traditionally stuck around very long for this event. She was very concerned that we play lots of fun music that would keep people dancing all night long. Well, we accepted the challenge and mahanged to keep the dance floor crowded for almost the entire night! (we forgot out camera in the midst of the GTA, or else there would be photographic evidence!). They seemed happy with the way the dance went and indicated that they would like us to DJ their Homecoming Dance this year! This is very exciting and hopefully we will be available!

Congratulations Bill and Myra!

We had a last minute booking that was very close to home (were I work when I am not DJing). We also had an accident (Kelly cut his hand) which resulted in a little bit of improvising, but it didn't affect the dance at all. Kristen did much more DJing than she was used to, but everyone had a great time and, 10 stitches later, Kelly came back good as new to finish the dance. As a result, we did not get to take pictures this time :(

This dance ran longer than most we have done, but it was a great crowd with a varied taste in music so it was easy to keep them dancing all night long. We tested out some new equipment this weekend also that is going to really help us out in bigger venues. Its also nice to know we hae backup equipment in case something breaks! Of course more equipment means that our car is not big enough to haul it all. We are working on a cargo van, which will be very nice to have.

We have just added videos to our website! They are a little bit shakey right now, but we are getting the whole tripod concept down and should be able to offer something a little bit higher quality in the near future. Congratulations Nick and Lisa!

This past Saturday, we went to the Sioux Falls Convention Center to celebrate the wedding of Nick and Lisa Schlitske. There were 2 other weddings going on there, so there was definitely a party atmosphere going on. The wedding had lots of family from out of town (including the groom's entire family!)so the mood was very relaxed and there were lots of toasts and a pretty lengthy video shown. The dance portion got started a little later than we would have liked, so we didn't get to do some of the things we like to do. It was also a lot less structured than we are used to, which was good and bad. Structure allows you to get everything done you need to, and play a variety of music to satisfy all ages and tastes. This time though, the wedding party came up to us requesting songs and we just played everything the requested, along with what the bride and groom had requested ahead of time. It made for a pretty fun evening. We decided that we should almost ask for the number of the maid of honor and the best man on the planning sheet since they always seem to know more about the couple's taste in music than they themselves remember to tell us.

By the time we packed up and left, it had been a very long night and we were both exhausted! We have the next month off, barring any last minute bookings (which there are threatening to be!) and we are definitely looking forward to the break as time to regroup, reorganize, and get ready for next spring, where it is looking like we will be busy every weekend.

Some of the pictures I took ended up a little fuzzy. We were experimenting with our new Pure Digital camcorder to put videos on our website and make them available to our clients. Its a little tricky to work 2 cameras at the same time, but we will get it figured out sooner or later and the prospect of videos is very exciting! Our eventual plan is to send the couple a multimedia disc which will include their pictures, videos, and special dance songs as a keepsake of their reception.
